💰 Hay Value Calculator — Price per Tonne & Bale

Calculate hay value per tonne and per bale based on quality, moisture and market prices. Make informed buying or selling decisions.

Quick answer: Grass hay $150-300/t, Lucerne $250-450/t. Bale value = ($/t × Bale kg) ÷ 1000. 500kg round bale at $200/t = $100/bale. Quality adjustments: +$10-15 per MJ ME, +$5-10 per % protein.

📐 How Hay Value Is Calculated

Adjusted price = Base price − (Moisture % over 15 × $7)
Bale value = (Adjusted price × Bale weight) ÷ 1000

📊 Worked Example

Grass hay base $200/t, 500kg bales, 18% moisture.

Moisture penalty = (18−15) × $7 = $21/t
Adjusted price = $200 − $21 = $179/t
Bale value = (179 × 500) ÷ 1000 = $89.50/bale
